Aircraft Interior Painting: Refreshing Cabin and Cockpit Finishes

Home Our Blog Aircraft Interior Painting: Refreshing Cabin and Cockpit Finishes

A cabin can have attractive seating and well-kept cabinetry yet still feel dated because of its painted surfaces. Scuffed trim, inconsistent shades, and finishes that no longer complement the upholstery can interrupt an otherwise appealing interior. Aircraft interior painting offers a way to address those details and bring greater consistency to the space.

We use Sherwin-Williams JETFlex Interior Aircraft Finishes for our interior painting work. These finishes support a range of applications across suitable plastic, metal, composite, and wood surfaces within the cabin and cockpit.

Identify What Needs Attention

Begin by separating concerns about appearance from concerns about the component itself. A faded color or worn finish is a different issue from a cracked or damaged part. Point out both during your project discussion so the condition can be considered before refinishing decisions are made.

Look beyond the most obvious blemish. Review nearby painted pieces to determine whether you want to address an isolated area or discuss a more consistent finish across several components. This helps establish a useful scope before choosing colors.

Work With the Interior You Have

If you like your existing upholstery and cabinetry, use them as the starting point for paint selection. The goal may be to restore a familiar appearance or introduce a shade that better connects the retained materials.

JETFlex offers extensive color options through its intermix system, allowing us to discuss specific shades and tints for your project. Bring physical material samples when available, especially if new upholstery or flooring is also planned.

Consider warm and cool undertones carefully. Two neutral shades that look similar separately may feel quite different when placed beside one another.

Review Finishes in Cabin Lighting

Paint selections deserve attention under the lighting passengers will actually experience. Daylight entering through the windows and the aircraft’s interior lamps can influence how a color appears.

Review the proposed shade alongside adjacent finishes, rather than judging it against a plain background alone. Pay particular attention to transitions between painted trim, covered panels, and cabinetry. Those meeting points often determine whether the finished interior feels coordinated.

For a larger refurbishment, include painted surfaces in the overall materials review before final selections are approved.

Think About Care After the Update

JETFlex provides an easy-to-clean surface designed to resist soiling. Ask for the appropriate care instructions for the finished components, including recommended cleaning methods and products. Sharing that guidance with everyone who maintains the cabin helps establish consistent care.

A well-planned paint update can give overlooked surfaces a renewed place in the interior. If worn finishes or mismatched colors are distracting from your cabin’s appearance, discuss your aircraft interior painting goals with Arizona Aircraft Interior Designs, Inc.
